The honeymoon suite suits its own private patio overlooking the amazing vistas and is a little more spacious than the rest of the rooms. When East Coast Radio jock, Dave Guselli, stayed at the lodge on his visit to Ladysmith, he could not get over how amazing the place is. \u201cIt\u2019s even better than a five star hotel\u201d, he said. I would agree with him completely. Bokmakierie has all the makings of a five star hotel, but with a little extra\u2026.that personal touch. It even won the prestigious Garden and Home\u2019s House of the Year award in 1990.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

In order to best illustrate the unique ambiance and to describe the facilities to be found at Bokmakierie Country Lodge, we have felt it appropriate to incorporate the kind words of a guest who stayed with us in order to complete a write-up which was compiled for the Ladysmith Gazette. The hospitality experienced by this guest is exactly how we at Bokmakierie Country Lodge strive to offer to all of our guests. \u201cThe name \u2018Bokmakierie\u2019 sounds fairly strange for a \u201cBed and Breakfast\u201d, and makes one wonder, \u201cWhat on earth is a bokma-what?\u201d. Then, when you understand why it\u2019s called that , you will say, \u201cOh, it makes sense\u201d. The Bokmakierie is a bird whose correct name is Telophorus Zeylonus, and has made its permanent residence at this particular bed and breakfast in 30 Chevril street, Reservoir Hill. If the name hasn\u2019t grabbed your attention already, the place certainly will. The Bokmakierie Country Lodge is set in tranquil surroundings at the edge of town, overlooking the Country Club golf course, acres of barren land, and a variety of wildlife. The house belongs to Judy and Tony Scharrighuisen, and was converted into a bed and breakfast when all three of their sons left home to seek greener pastures.<\/p>\n\"receptionborder\"\n

The Scharrighuisens realized that their home was now too big for just the two of them, and made the decision to serve the public. After many years of doing just that, they then realized that the house was now too small to be a lodge, and decided to extend their property. Judy\u2019s philosophy is, \u201cWe\u2019ve got a beautiful home, and would like to share it with everyone\u201d. The word \u2018beautiful\u2019 is an understatement, I would say. The Scharriguisen\u2019s garden, home and setting is simply stunning. From the moment you enter the driveway, you are immediately enveloped by a world of beauty and tranquility. When you enter the main house, you feel at home almost at once. Judy is usually the person who receives guests, and has a way of making you feel most welcome. You can\u2019t help but look around with awe, especially when you go outside.<\/p>\n\"Honeymoonsuiteborder\n

The stunning pool beckons to you warmly, while you wonder if the grass is real or fake. Palm trees and green shrubs give the feel of a tropical island, as you look out into the peaceful countryside. Amazingly enough, you can almost see the majestic Drakensberg in the distance. As Judy leads you to your room, you try and figure out if you really are in Ladysmith, because it feels as if you are at some safari lodge for the weekend. The rooms in the new wing are all different, with a personal African touch. Every room comes with satellite TV, air conditioning, and under floor heating in the bathroom. Each bathroom houses a lovely Victorian bath (you know, those white ones on legs), some with the option of the shower also, and each wash basin is personally handcrafted to match the room, in ethnic design.<\/p>\n\"golfcourse\"\n

And after your soak in the bath, you can wrap yourself in a thirsty, toweling Bokmakierie robe. How\u2019s that for consideration? From the wrought iron towel racks to the gilded mirrors to the African art, all is done in good taste\u2026.no, impeccable taste. A bar and snacks are also available while you unwind. You can enjoy breakfast in the dining room overlooking the pool, or beside the pool, in comfortable cane loungers. One of the rooms also boasts a steam room, and a Jacuzzi in the main section of the house. And if you please, your laundry will also get done during your stay. What more could we ask for? The honeymoon suite maybe? This room is tucked away in a corner.
